Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 8, 2026

Happenin (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Happenin website, mobile application, and related services (together, the “Service”), which let users discover and buy tickets to events, organisers create and manage events, and users find and join group activities (“TeamUp”). This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

1. Information we collect

Account information

Name, phone number, and (optionally) email address. Your phone number is verified via a one-time passcode (OTP) sent by SMS/WhatsApp when you sign up or log in. If you use “Sign in with Google”, we receive your name, email address, and Google account ID from Google — we never see or store your Google password.

Profile information (optional)

Gender, date of birth, a short bio, your city/location text, and a profile photo, if you choose to add them.

Location

If you use the “Near You” discovery feature, we use your device’s location (or a location you search for) to show nearby events and activities. You can decline location access and still use the rest of the Service.

Payment information

Ticket and other payments are processed by our payment partner, Razorpay. We do not collect or store your card, UPI, or net-banking credentials — Razorpay handles that directly and securely. We keep a record of the transaction (amount, ticket(s) purchased, order status, and Razorpay’s transaction reference) for receipts, refunds, and support.

Organiser information

If you apply to host events, we additionally collect business/organiser details you provide (business name, category, city, social links) and, for payouts, your bank account number, IFSC code, UPI ID, PAN, and GST details where applicable. This is used solely to verify and pay out your event earnings.

Content you create

Events, ticket listings, TeamUp posts, photos you upload, messages you send to organisers or other attendees, reviews, and ratings.

Automatically collected information

Device and app information (device type, OS version, app version), a push-notification token (if you enable notifications), and standard server logs (IP address, timestamps, pages/requests) used for security, fraud prevention, and rate-limiting abusive traffic.

2. How we use your information

  • To create and secure your account, and verify your identity via OTP.
  • To process ticket purchases, issue tickets, and enable check-in at events.
  • To pay out organiser earnings and meet our tax/compliance obligations.
  • To show you relevant nearby events and activities.
  • To send booking confirmations, reminders, and service updates via SMS, WhatsApp, email, or push notification.
  • To operate TeamUp — matching you with group activities you choose to join or host.
  • To respond to support requests and enforce our Terms of Service.
  • To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.

3. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Event organisers, for tickets you buy to their events (your name, phone, and the details they collect on their registration form) — so they can identify you at check-in and communicate with you about that event.
  • Razorpay, to process payments.
  • Google, for Sign-In and for geocoding venue addresses.
  • Fast2SMS / Meta WhatsApp Business / MSG91, to deliver OTP codes and ticket/booking messages.
  • Firebase (Google), to deliver push notifications.
  • Our email delivery provider, to send transactional email.
  • Law enforcement or regulators, only where required by applicable law.

4. Data retention

We retain account and transaction information for as long as your account is active and afterwards for as long as needed to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can request deletion of your account at any time (see Section 6).

5. Security

We use industry-standard measures — encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your rights and choices

  • Access and correction: you can view and edit your profile information in the app at any time.
  • Deletion: you can permanently delete your account from Settings, or by writing to us at the email below. Some information may be retained where required by law (e.g. financial records).
  • Notifications: you can turn off push notifications from your device settings or in-app settings.
  • Location: you can deny or revoke location access from your device settings at any time.

7. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Grievance Officer

In accordance with applicable Indian law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the Grievance Officer for Happenin is:

Address: IIT Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

9. Changes to this policy
